HP 6940 printer problems?

My HP Deskjet printer says there is a problem with tri color catridge, I've put 2 new cartridges in, and the light is still falshing and refuses to print. What can I do? I have already reloaded software. but still light flashes and wont work. Any help?

I see you've already reloaded the HP software – my HP software has many problems – it was a good try. Once you've tried more than a tri-color ink cartridge, it is possible for the printer and the HP software has a "communication" problem. Copper conductors (strips) on the cassette and the printer must be clean – even a fingerprint can cause communication problems. I would remove the cartridge – With a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol – Clean the contacts in the printer & cartridges – let dry for 20-30 minutes, then reinstall the cartridge and re-test. Sometimes, overnight drying [with the cartridge loaded in the printer needed]. An HP printer "remembers" the last two [each] cartridges that have been in the printer – they are embedded serial numbers of cartridges copper conductors – the memory built into the printers firmware. If you have access to a third tri-color ink cartridge, try to install, then remove and reinstall all three rounds in order – since the HP printer only remembers the last two rounds, then the third is inserted, the printer will reconize it as "New". This will also bring your Expected "Ink Levels" shows correctly. If you have only the two Tri-Color cartridges, your printer is reconizing both of them would cause " Estimated Ink Levels "to show zero ink – do not worry about it – it will not cause the printer no problem. [It is only several attempts, by HP to discourge Refilling - they do not want to share in their "$ 900.00 one gallon" ink world]. I do not think that one HP here – the other 11 major printer manufacturers are also guilty – each have different ways to create the design & engineering problems. If the problem persists, you can goto the HP website, they have a section Troubleshooting for every HP printer, including all "Flashing Lights" – they also have "Tech E-Mail" & "Tech – TBA". When you have at least two tri-color ink cartridges – when your printer is the problem solved – Be sure to retain the second cartridge in a vertical position (to avoid the "Cross-Conramination" of colors) and be sure to re-tape the print head; With Printhead tape that came with your cartridge – to prevent curing of ink that will clog the printhead.
