I bought a brand new drum and toner for my printer, but it still says "toner life end". ?
The printer is a Brother DCP-7020, which a few years old. The drum and toner came in original sealed packaging, so I know it is brand new. Brothers FAQ said to remove the toner, swish it from side to side and clean the wire on the drum. The problem does not disappear even after I try this. Could it be something wrong with the inside of the printer? I tried to drum and tones in a second Brother printer and no error message. Thank you for your detailed reply, Printer Tech. The flag is really missing from my starter toner. But since this is a business tones that came with a new printer, should not it still work? I put the new drum and toner into a new printer and it works fine. There are no error messages. This seems to pointing to my old DCP-7020 is the problem. Any ideas?
I assume you are talking about the drum light is still on after replacing the drum (DR-350). There should have been directions in the box to reset counter for drum, but here a quick run down: Drum Rest: 1 Make sure the machine is switched on and drum light is blinking. 2. Press and hold the "GO" button in 4 seconds or until all four candles are lit. 3. Release "GO" button Drum light must be off now, and the machine must be ready to print. If the drum light remains on, repeat the procedure with the machine and the toner / drum door open. Finsh by closing the door. Toner Reset: I assume a genuine Brother cartridge here, and not a remanufactured. Replacing toner cartridge (TN-350) cartridge should reset automatically. If you look at the left end / side of the cassette, while holding it by the handle, you should see half moon palace with a white piece of Haly moon. It is a sweeper flag to reset the toner level. The flag must be in the 11 position before installing a full cartridge. An installed gear shift Sweeper flag to 3 position and in the process hit a sensor in the machine to reset the toner levels. If you purchased a remanufactued cartridge and the flag is missing, return the cartridge to the person who sold it to you and tell them to install the reset flag or refund you. We've seen a ton of those rebuilt by people who did not know what they did and did not install flag. This question raises, because the cartridge comes with new machines is a "starter" cartridge and has no reset flag because it was not necessary with the first cassette which set the new Brother toner level to "0" at the factory.
